SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA OF THE 35th DIVISION This article originally appeared in the March-April 1954 issue of the Trading Post. It has been reformatted for the web site and color drawings replace the original black and white ones.
The insignia for the 35th Division is a copy of the markers which were at one time used to identify the old Santa Fe Trail. The trail began near Camp Doniphan (now part of Fort Sill), the World War I original station of the division. The insignia as worn since the 1920s is a white cross and circle upon a blue disc. During World War I (and probably for some years following) a far more elaborate color scheme was in use. Each unit of the Division had its own color scheme for the portions which are now blue, and the present white portions were then olive drab. The various known World War I insignia of the division are presented here. Only one type for each is illustrated. Like all World War I insignia there are numerous variations in shape, size, or style of manufacture, but variations are not listed here. This article is presented for basic information, the collector is left to specialize in variations as he chooses. If you can add additional information to this article, please do so.
